About the Ophthalmology Department
The Ophthalmology Department at United Bulawayo Hospitals is located at Richard Morris Hospital.
It serves as a central referral centre for eye care in the southern region of Zimbabwe, covering:

Bulawayo Metropolitan

Matabeleland North
-
Matabeleland South
-
Midlands
-
Masvingo Provinces
The department is also a training centre for both doctors and nurses who wish to specialize in ophthalmic care.
Our staff complement includes 2 consultants, senior registrars, and ophthalmic medical officers.
Services Provided
Inpatient Services

Two (2) dedicated admitting wards for ophthalmic patients.
Outpatient Services

The eye clinic runs Monday to Friday.

Weekends and public holidays are reserved for emergency cases.
Eye Operations
We perform a wide range of anterior segment surgeries, including:

Cataract surgery

Glaucoma surgery (possibly “Celamone” was meant to be glaucoma—correct if needed)

Anterior segment laser procedures

Oculoplastic surgery
Refraction Services
We offer refraction and optical services for patients requiring spectacles.
This service is delivered in partnership with the Council for the Blind (Zimbabwe) and ZCFB.
Outreach Services
In collaboration with the Council for the Blind, our ophthalmologists conduct mobile eye services in:

During outreach missions, doctors treat various eye diseases and perform surgeries for patients requiring operative care.
