About the Department

The department comprises three Orthopaedic firms, headed by Mr. B. Swene.
The firms are:

  1. Mr. B. Swene / Mr. C. Msasanure

  2. Mr. G. Matindi

  3. Mr. C. Kujoka

Each firm runs:

  • One weekly OPD clinic

  • One effective theatre list per week

In addition, one firm operates a Club Foot Clinic using the Ponseti method under the Bulawayo Club Foot Project.

The department serves the southern half of Zimbabwe and is frequently overwhelmed by trauma cases due to the increasing number of road traffic accidents.


Outpatients Department (OPD)

Clinic Days

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays (Morning)
    Mainly fracture clinics, with some non-trauma orthopaedic cases.


Club Foot Clinic

  • Wednesdays (Morning)
    This specialized clinic manages club foot using the Ponseti method.


Theatre & Ward Activities

  • Elective Theatre Lists: Mondays & Fridays

  • Ward Rounds: Conducted throughout the week

  • Wards Covered:

    • Ellis Ward

    • Eaton & Pettigrew Ward (female)


Training & Teaching

The department plays a major role in training:

  • Newly qualified housemen – attached to each firm for 6 weeks

  • Student nurses – in collaboration with the local nursing school

  • Postgraduate orthopaedic registrars
