The Radiology Department at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) is committed to providing equitable, efficient, high-quality, cost-effective, safe, and client-friendly diagnostic medical imaging services. Our services are delivered in line with internationally accepted standards and are supported by skilled professionals, appropriate expertise, and available modern imaging modalities.

 

Our Services

The department offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services to support patient care across all clinical disciplines.

 

Imaging Techniques

X-Ray Imaging

We provide general and specialized X-ray imaging services used in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Bone injuries and fractures
  • Bone infections and arthritis
  • Detection and monitoring of cancers
  • Chest X-rays for tuberculosis (TB) screening
  • Other routine and specialized diagnostic procedures

Ultrasound Imaging

Our ultrasound services are used to examine various internal organs and body systems, including:

  • Liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas
  • Kidneys and urinary bladder

We offer a full spectrum of diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures, such as:

  • Pelvic ultrasound for expectant mothers
  • Ultrasound-guided biopsies
  • Pericardiocentesis
  • Percutaneous drainage of abscesses

Specialized ultrasound services include:

  • Doppler ultrasound (blood vessel imaging)
  • Echocardiography (heart imaging)
  • Transcranial ultrasound (brain imaging)

Computed Tomography (CT) Scan

CT scanning is an advanced imaging modality used to provide detailed cross-sectional and three-dimensional images. Our CT services assist in:

  • Examination of the brain and internal organs such as the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, prostate, and urinary bladder
  • Assessment of bowel conditions, including rectal and colon cancer
  • Detailed evaluation of bone injuries and fractures
  • Cancer staging and detection of metastasis to organs, bones, and the spine

Safety and Quality Assurance

The department strictly implements and monitors policies governing:

  • Safe use of ionizing radiation
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Electrical and equipment safety

These measures ensure the safety of patients, staff, and members of the public at all times.

Training and Capacity Building

The Radiology Department plays a key role in human resource development by providing clinical training for:

  • Student radiographers
  • Intern radiographers
  • Junior radiographers requiring supervised clinical practice

Hours of Operation

Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 10:00pm
Saturday: 9:00am – 1:00pm

🚨 Emergency radiology services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
